Pioneer (4-1, 2-0) defeated Detroit Martin Luther King today by a score of 48-44. Pioneer held MLK to 3 points in the first quarter, but then allowed them to climb back into it with 16 in the second. Pioneer held a slight edge in the fourth, but MLK made a late push after hitting a three to bring it within two with 17 seconds left. After key free throws late by Seniors Jacob Williams and Jack Fitzgerald, the Pioneers were able to edge out the four point victory. Pioneer was led by Juniors Kasean Pryor who had 15 points and 14 boards, and Drew Lowder who added 15 points. Fitzgerald added 9.
The game was played as part of the “Battle of the Counties” showcase which featured 8 top teams from Washtenaw and Wayne counties. Pioneer will play next at Bellville Tuesday, January 9th at 7:00pm.
