Volleyball:

1. A weather delay pushed this Regional Final to Friday, and No. 7 Rudyard rose to a challenge coming back from dropping the first set to down Pellston in four in Class D – Sault Ste. Marie Evening News

5. Class B No. 4 Niles is hoping to add to its first District and Regional titles with a first Quarterfinal win, over No. 3 Lake Odessa Lakewood – Niles Daily Star

6. Class A No. 3 Grand Rapids Christian downed top-ranked Rockford in the Regional, a big step as the Eagles pursue their first MHSAA championship in the sport with No. 4 DeWitt up next – FOX17

Girls Golf:

Traverse City West’s Anika Dy was named Miss Golf for the second time by the Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches Association – Traverse City Record-Eagle

 

Cross Country:

Coldwater’s Shuaib Aljabaly and Lansing Catholic’s Olivia Theis were named Mr. Cross Country and Miss Cross County, respectively, by the Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association – Coldwater Daily Reporter

 

Hockey:

1. The first games of the season can be played today, and Petoskey is among teams anticipating a return to the ice – Petoskey News-Review

Girls Swimming & Diving:

1. Honorable mention Spring Lake will send 10 athletes to the Lower Peninsula Division 3 Finals, including three divers – Grand Haven Tribune

2. Hamilton standout Paige Kuhn is banking on a strong finish in the final meet of her high school career – Holland Sentinel

3. Gaylord sophomore Grace Wambier is a school record holder and hopes to add to her accomplishments at the Division 3 Finals – Gaylord Herald Times

4. No. 7 Brighton is aiming to claim the Division 1 team championship with arguably its strongest assemblage of experienced contenders under coach Jason Black – Livingston Daily Press & Argus

The Ann Arbor Pioneer Women’s Swim and Dive team took 4th place at the 2017 SEC Red Women’s Championship Meet. The following Pioneer relays scored: A Medley Relay – 5th (Grace Stephan, Jiayou Shen, Dayna Houston, Meg Brady), B Medley Relay – 10th (Isabella Reyes, Evelyn Broughton, Cassidy Spisak, Lauren Batra), A 200 Free Relay – 5th (Anna Peters, Evelyn Broughton, Lizzy Peters, Madeleine Batra), A 400 Free Relay – 3rd (Jenni Krzeczkowski, Abby Mehraban, Quoia Sam, Katie Capelli), and B 400 Free Relay – 10th (Grace Stephan, Isabella Reyes, Lauren Batra, Cassidy Spisak). The following Pioneers scored individually: Katie Capelli (200 Free – 5th & 500 Free – 2nd), Meg Brady (200 Free -15th), Isabella Reyes (200 IM – 13th & 100 Free – 14th), Cassidy Spisak (200 IM – 15th & 100 Breast – 15th), Jenni Krzeczkowski (50 Free – 3rd & 100 Free – 7th), Grace Stephan (50 Free – 11th & 100 Back – 11th), Lauren Batra (50 Free – 13th & 100 Free – 11th), Madeleine Batra (50 Free – 15th), Tierney Fraidenburg (Diving – 11th), Jordan Marion (Diving – 12th), Abby Mehraban (100 Fly – 4th & 500 Free – 4th), Dayna Houston (100 Fly – 14th), Quoia Sam (100 Free – 6th & 100 Back – 2nd), Evelyn Broughton (500 Free – 13th), and Jiayou Shen (100 Breast – 14th). New state qualification cuts were earned by Katie Capelli (200 Free), Jenni Krzeczkowski (50 Free), Abby Mehraban (100 Fly & 500 Free), and the 400 Free Relay (Capelli, Mehraban, Sam, Krzeczkowski). Quoia Sam also earned a MISCA cut in the 100 Free.

Meet Recap

The Pioneer girls ended their very successful cross country season with a 4th place finish at the State Championships. The team from Troy won with 137 points, followed by Northville with 132 points and Rockford with 153 points. Anne Forsyth finished her HS cross country career at Pioneer with a 16th place finish, followed by Zofia Dudek in 20th, Libby Kos in 52nd, Anna Vogel in 75th, Mallory Dawes in 107th, Ella Ryan in 189th, and Alice Glab in 193rd. Zofia, Libby, and Mallory had their all-time best performances, while Alice and Anna had season best performances. Both Anne and Zofia were selected as All-State performers.

Meet Recap

The team won a very challenging State Finals by only 3 points. The team was behind at the 2 mile mark by a considerable margin but managed to finish strong over the last 1200m and win it at the finish line. Nick Foster was 50m behind with 1200m to go but won the State Championship coming down the last 100m He was followed by Aldo Pando-Girard with his best race of the year, John Florence cam of very strong and finshed next to Jack Wallace to give the team a strong 3rd / 4th man finish. Philip Valtadoros had his best race of the year and was 5th man on the team. The team won every race they ran in this year.

Great last race of season for those not competing in the State Final A very large number of athletes had their best race of the season. Tunji Paige led the onslaught with his best race ever that led to his best time ever of 16:18. Owen Rennich was close behind in 3rd with his best ever in the mid 16:30s Paul Sutton was our third man in in 16:47, another personal best ever. Start Final;s are Sat and the varsity will run at 3:30 pm Come to MIS and support the team.

Meet Recap

The Pioneer girls cross country team won a tight battle for the Regional Championship, beating Saline by 2 points, 49-51. Bedford finished third with 76 points, with all three teams qualifying for the State Championships next Saturday at MIS. A total of 17 teams competed. Anne Forsyth led the Pioneers again with a 2nd place finish. Following Anne were Zofia Dudek in 3rd, Anna Vogel in 8th, Libby Kos in 17th, Mallory Dawes in 19th, Alice Glab in 28th and Ella Ryan in 29th. The JV girls won the PROM race. Leading the Pioneers were EmJ Rennich in 6th, Cammie Dalton in 8th, Sophy Cunningham in 10th, Rachel Pacernick in 11th, and Nina Beardsley in 14th.
