Don Dohoney

2013 Athletic Alumnus Award

March 4,1932-July 4, 1993

Don Dohoney graduated from Ann Arbor High School in 1950. He played football, basketball and baseball each for three years, earning a total of nine varsity letters. After high school, Don attended Michigan State University from 1950 to 1953. He played football at MSU earning All-American and All-Academic honors. Don was captain of Michigan State’s 1954 Rose Bowl Championship team. Don went on to play in the National Football League for one year with the Chicago Cardinals, who later became the Chicago Bears. Don’s family remembers his favorite quote: “Think big, walk tall, be happy,” which he shared throughout his life with his children and grandchildren. Don’s experiences as an Ann Arbor High School athlete taught him to live by these words throughout his high school, college and professional careers.
